During the pandemic, ensemble singing became too risky, so I found solace in picking up my guitar and revisiting the simple folk songs of my childhood. I dreamed of someday forming a women’s trio that would blend the clarity of classical training with the earthy, expressive qualities of folk music. My vision was to reconnect with folk music’s roots in tight harmonies, storytelling, and cultural history, using song as a way to forge a deep connection with an audience. While the idea of this ensemble started as a personal dream, Robin and Eileen, the two incredibly talented musicians that have joined me in this endeavor, have each contributed their own creative voices to this journey. Together, we’ve been able to explore musical landscapes and textures I never would have imagined on my own.

As we continue to develop and cultivate our distinctive artistic expression, Timbre Trio is becoming a fusion of original compositions, using poetry from ourselves and our friends, and fresh arrangements of traditional folk songs, all woven together with choral works for treble voices—like what you’ll hear from us in our first full-length concert on January 26. We hope this shows Timbre Trio's commitment to originality and creativity. As creators at heart, Robin, Eileen, and I seek an active role in shaping our musical identity, pushing the boundaries of genre conventions, and experimenting with different styles and influences.

Thank you for engaging with our journey and we appreciate and encourage your feedback and support. Robin, Eileen, and I will share regular updates and some "musings" about our creative process as we go along, so please check back with us in this space when you have a chance, and leave comments or suggestions as you wish!
